Although I have found a sequel is often times unable to capture the full scope and energy of the first volume, the author having spent so much of their creative energy on the initial push, clearly that is not a problem with Logan's second volume in the First Life fantasy adventure series. The amazingly vivid detail continues and the intricately crafted fantasy world is expanded, while the adventure only increases as Thanan grows into manhood and faces new life threatening and life changing challenges.

And, as we go into an "underearth" world we find ourselves also pulled into the mysterious inner spaces of Thanan's mind, heart and soul as he tries to understand who he is, what he fights for and how he fits into the world of light and dark, as choices in many shades of grey swirl all around him.

Another good read and time well spent.

This book has everything I love in a book; A protagonist you love and would follow into war, exciting battles, intrigue, fantastic escapes, daring rescues, a little romance and a jaw-dropping/compelling ending that makes me want to pick up the next book.

This action-packed sequel did not disappoint. The book is set in the "underearth as the author describes it, and has many surprises along the way. It is a world unlike any I've ever read about. The attention to detail and story development in this book is astounding. I found myself so immersed in the world that I completely forgot where I was- lost in the vast crystal-filled caverns and labyrinths wanting to pick up my sword and start swinging.

The author takes you on a treacherous, yet hopeful journey with the main character, Thanan. He finds a new home and acceptance among the giants. The boy truly becomes a man in this book, overcoming self-doubt, fantastic creatures & evil kings. The story development is wonderful and builds from the first book.

Sadly, I'll have to wait for the next one to come out. Superbly written!

I'm currently reading "Sign of the Guardian", close to finishing it. I'm throurghly enjoying this series. I'd highly recommend this series to anyone to try.
I was riveted the whole time, couldn't put the book down. Very descriptive, a lot of thought was put into this book. Ryan is a very thoughtful writer and doesn't leave anything out. Love the characters. Can't wait for the next one.
Amazing follow up to Princes of Panajin. I love the introduction of a bunch of new characters that really flesh out the world of first life and make it seem like a place I want to explore and learn all I can about. This is feeling is encapsulated by one of the greatest characters created in the last decade Tavris. I can't wait till volume three to see what happens next.
Amazing writing!! The details are vivid. I never wanted to put the book down even though I knew that I still needed to eat, sleep, and don't forget work. This book will hold the attention of all who read it and is written so that even youth will be held spell bound. Teachers, if you want to have an example to share of detailed or creative writing, read this book. It will give you weeks of creative writing examples.
Ryan Logan does not disappoint with the Sign of the Guardian Volume II! Just like the first book in the First Life series, Logan took the reader on a whirlwind of adventure all the while touching on themes like honor and integrity. A great story, well-developed characters, and a rich and detailed imagery of the fantastical lands immediately steep the reader into this other world that Logan has created. I couldn't put this book down until I finished it. Can't wait for the next in the series!
